ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER RECOMMENDED BY MR. CRAMER
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is a fictionalized story of America's greatest president as he fights to preserve the nation from the threat of vampires! Young Abraham Lincoln takes up the cause to defeat the vampires after his mother is killed by one. Lincoln learns that the vampires are perpetuating the institution of slavery and in order to end slavery and preserve the union, the vampires must be stopped. This book is great because it combines history with science fiction. The author, Seth Grahame-Smith, adds his own literary flair to history and fiction to bring together an exciting story.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter received the following praise from Entertainment Weekly: "Thanks to P&P&Z (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies--also by Grahame-Smith), a delicious mutant book craze was born. But then opportunists infested the territory...It's nice to see plucky Grahame-Smith retake his turf." It's in the school library (FIC GRA).

Life of Pi
RECOMMENDED BY MS. FORD
Life of Pi is a coming of age novel by Yann Martel and one of my favorite novels that I read over the summer. The novel's narrator, Piscine Molitor Patel, also known simply as "Pi", survives months in the open ocean after the ship he was traveling to North America on with his family and the family's zoo abruptly sinks. His only companion, in a small life boat, is a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. Pi must survive the elements, loneliness, and the dangers of a hungry tiger as he learns about life, religion, and coming of age.
